If you are using Firefox, you have two options, which are both Add ons:
1. Fast Video Download
2. DownloadHelper

If you download both/either of them, you'll be able to rt click on the icon in Firefox and save it to your desktop. Voila!

Now, hopefully you're using VLC Media Player and not WMP, b/c that's just...stercus. Go to download.com to get safe freeware, and get VLC if you haven't. It plays all codex that are out now.
